Q: What is VNCproject?
A: VNCproject is a web-based project management and issue-tracking software. It allows users to manage multiple projects and associated subprojects. VNCproject combines issue, task and ticket management, scheduling, progress monitoring, Gantt charts as well as time tracking, wikis, cost control, team management, and powerful project planning features.

Q: Who is VNCproject for?

A: You can edit information like your email address, full name, period of payment, and display language. Refer to the "Change email notifications" section, for a step-by-step guide.

Q: Can I control VNCproject notifications?
A: You can control for which events you would like to receive notifications by email. Refer to the "Edit account information" section, for a step-by-step guide.

Q: Where can I configure my account preferences and what options do I have here?
A: Your preference settings let you customize some elements of VNCproject to your liking, including font, time zone, display comments, and other attributes. Refer to the "Customize preference settings" section, for a step-by-step guide.

Agile Board Management

Q: What is Agile Board?
A: An Agile Board is the visual representation of an agile development process. The board lets you view the current status of each ticket, estimate your efforts, and track the progress toward completion for each ticket.

Q: What are the components of the Agile Board?
A: The Agile Board consists of three key components:

  • Board represents a place to organize tickets, and all the little details, and collaborate with your teammates.
  • Columns keep cards or specific tickets organized in their various stages of progress.
  • Cards represent the smallest, but most detailed unit of an Agile Board. Cards are used to represent tickets that need to get done.

Q: My Agile Board is blank. How do I start?
A: Here's a quick rundown of the most important things to know when you're just getting started.

  • Step 1. Create a project

The first thing you need to do is to create a project. Projects can be created by administrators, or in some cases by non-administrator users, depending on the permissions given.

Projects organize all the tickets related to a specific initiative, goal, or a big part of work.

  • Step 2. Start collaborating with your team

Once your teammates sign up for VNCproject, you can add them to any relevant project and start creating tickets for them. As you all start collaborating in VNCproject, you'll receive notifications and can track your work more efficiently.

  • Step 3. Add your first ticket.

You can make tickets for work you want to make done today, this week, or later on. You can also make tickets for other people on your team. You can add other teammates as watchers, so they'll get notified about any updates.

Ticket Management

Q: How do I assign a ticket to multiple users in VNCproject?
A: You can set one person as an assignee, and the others as watchers. Watchers get notifications and can manage the ticket just like the assignee.

However, you can assign a ticket to a group, and the group will receive notifications and can manage the ticket as one. To be able to assign a ticket to a group, make sure, you have this option turned on in Admin > Settings > Issue tracking. Check the box next to Allow issue assignment to groups. You will then see a group in the assignee list (the group has to be a member of the project, just like a regular user).

Q: Can I mark a ticket as private after the creation?
A: Yes, you can check the private checkbox both during and after ticket creation.

Q: What is the difference between marking an issue as Resolved vs Closed?
A: Resolved means a Developer thinks he's fixed the bug, and Closed means the original reporter or a Manager has signed off on it.

Q: How to close a ticket?
A: When you have completed a ticket, select the percent work complete from the % Done dropdown menu and change the status to Closed. Post a comment so teammates know what you achieved.

Q: Сan I delete a ticket?
A: Tickets can be deleted by administrators, or in some cases by non-administrator users, depending on the permissions given. Refer to the "Delete a ticket" section, for a step-by-step guide.

Q: Can I add attachments to a ticket?
A: In VNCproject, you can add attachments (files) to each ticket. Refer to the "Add an attachment to a ticket" section, for a step-by-step guide.

Q: Can I add dependency between tickets?
A: The "Related tickets" option allows users to link tickets to each other to simplify their workflow. If there are other tickets that relate to the one you are working on, their details could help add context. By linking two tickets together, they will appear on each other’s ticket view below the description.

To be able to add a relation between tickets, make sure, you have this option turned on in Admin > Roles & Permissions > Issue tracking. Check the box next to Manage issue relations.

Roles & Permissions

Q: What are the roles in VNCproject?
A: A role is a collection of access rights. It allows you to define the permissions that the user has on a project. Each user of a project has one or multiple role(s) for the project. If a user has multiple roles in a project, the permissions applied to the user are the combination of all roles' permissions.

Q: How do I assign a role in VNCproject?
A: Roles can be assigned by administrators, or in some cases by non-administrator users, depending on the permissions given.

You can create new roles or edit existing ones. You can delete a role only if nobody has this role on a project. Navigate to Admin > Users > Projects. Here you can can add a project, where you also assign roles, or you can edit them.
