Chats & Group Chats¶

With the chat feature in VNCcommander, you can create new chat/ group chat, hold instant messaging conversations with users, use emojis, mention people, and send documents, images, or other content.
Start a chat¶
You can start the chat with a user in VNCcommander. But also you can open the chat in VNCtalk.
- Click Create new.
- Select Chat > Start Chat.

Select one of the following options
- If you want to start the chat in VNCcommander, click Start chat.
- If you want to start the chat in VNCtalk, click Open in VNCtalk.

Select the user you want to chat with.
Start a group chat¶
You can create a group chat with up to 100 participants in VNCcommander. Group chats allow users to exchange messages, share files, and collaborate in real time. You can also set privacy and security options when creating a group chat.
- Click Create new.
- Select Chat > Start group chat.

Enter a group chat name.
- Choose a meaningful group chat name to help participants quickly understand the purpose of the chat.

Click the avatar icon to add a group chat image. Hover the pointer over the avatar icon and click Upload. Select an image from your device, crop it, and click Done.
- Under the Participants section, click Edit participants and select the users you want to invite to a group and click the Select button.

Under the Privacy section, customize access and visibility:
- Make chat private. Restrict access to invited participants only.
- Make room persistent. Retain the chat history and group settings even if all users leave.
- Make room publicly searchable. Allow other users to find this group chat via search.

(Optional) Under the Security section, enable OMEMO encryption (optional, depending on your organization's policies) to secure messages with end-to-end encryption. Leave the setting off if you don't require message encryption.

(Optional) Under the Tag section, add a relevant tag to help organize or filter your group chat (e.g., #project-x, #marketing). Type the tag name and press Enter.
- Click Create.
You should see the created group chat in the chats list.
Reply to a message¶
You can reply to VNCtalk messages directly in VNCcommander without opening VNCtalk.

- Click VNCtalk in the left sidebar.
- Hover over the message you want to reply to and click the kebab menu icon
in the upper right corner.
- Select Reply from the dropdown menu.
- Type your response.
- Click the send button

Copy a message¶
You can reply to VNCtalk messages directly in VNCcommander without opening VNCtalk.
Forward a chat message¶
You can forward messages from an individual or group chat to another individual or group chat. Forwarded messages are indicated with a Forwarded label.

Send a message by email¶
You can easily send a message from a chat to an email recipient directly from VNCcommander.
