Chats & Group Chats¶

With the chat feature in VNCcommander, you can create new chat/ group chat, hold instant messaging conversations with users, use emojis, mention people, and send documents, images, or other content.
Start a chat¶
You can start the chat with a user in VNCcommander. But also you can open the chat in VNCtalk.
- Click Create new.
- Click Chat.
- If you want to start the chat in VNCcommander, click Start chat. If you want to start the chat in VNCtalk, click Open in VNCtalk.
- Search for a required user and click them.
Start a group chat¶
You can create a group chat with up to 100 participants in VNCcommander.
- Click Create new.
- Click Chat.
- Click Start group chat.
- Click the avatar icon next to the group chat name field if you want to add a group chat image. Then click Upload, select a required photo/picture, and crop it. If you have selected the photo/picture, click Done.
- Enter the name to the Group chat name field.
- Enter the group chat description in the Group chat description field.
- Under the Participants section, click Edit participants and select users you want to add to a chat. Then click Select.

Under the Privacy section, customize the following options:
- Make chat private
- Make room persistant
- Make room publicly searchable

Under the Security section, switch on OMEMO encryption toggle or leave it by default.
- Under the Tag section, enter a tag name in the field and press Enter.
- Click Create.
Reply to a chat message¶
You can reply to VNCtalk message directly in VNCcommander. It means that you can reply to the message without opening VNCtalk.
There are 2 ways to reply to VNCtalk message.
Way 1. Without opening the message.
Detailed view
- Click VNCtalk.

Hold the pointer over the message and click the reply icon

The Chat quick preview modal window will open. Enter your response and click Enter.
Tile view
- Click VNCtalk.
- Click Reply under a required message.
- The Chat quick preview modal window will open. Enter your response and click Enter.
Way 2. Opening the message.
- Click VNCtalk.
- Click a required message. The Chat quick preview modal window will open.
- Click the kebab menu icon
in the upper right-hand corner of the message you want to reply to. Then select the Reply menu option that opens.
- Enter your response and click Enter or Send button.
Copy a chat message¶
You can copy a VNCtalk message directly in VNCcommander.
There are 2 ways to copy a VNCtalk message.
Way 1. Without opening the message.
Detailed view
Tile view
- Click VNCtalk.
- Click the kebab menu icon
and then select the Copy to clipboard menu option that opens.
Way 2. Opening the message.
- Click VNCtalk.
- Click a required message. The Chat quick preview modal window will open.
- Click the kebab menu icon
in the upper right-hand corner of the message you want to copy. Then select the Copy to clipboard menu option that opens.
Forward a chat message¶
You can forward messages from an individual or group chat to another individual or group chat. Forwarded messages are indicated with a Forwarded label.
There are two ways to forward a chat message.
Way 1. Without opening the message.
Detailed view
- Click VNCtalk.
- Hold the pointer over required message and click the arrow icon
.
- Select a required chat/ group chat or use the search field for searching.
Tile view
- Click VNCtalk.
- Click the kebab menu icon
and then select the Send to menu option that opens.
- Select a required chat/ group chat or use the search field for searching.
Way 2. Opening the message.
- Click VNCtalk.
- Click a required message. The Chat quick preview modal window will open.
- Click the kebab menu icon
in the upper right-hand corner of the message you want to forward to. Then select the Forward menu option that opens.
- Select a required chat/ group chat or use the search field for searching.
